Although modern science has yet to find that magic potion to reverse the aging process, the good news is that there are many safe and successful treatment options that can help you turn back the clock and regain some of your youthful radiance.
Fillers such as Botox and Restylane can smooth out fine lines, and laser treatments and peels can rejuvenate your skin.
Brow lifts can reduce deep furrows, and eyelid procedures can eliminate baggy and droopy skin around your eyes.
Each of these treatments can shave years off of your appearance.
However, it still remains that the most effective way to reduce the visible signs of aging in the face and neck is through a procedure called a facelift.
Benefits of a Facelift:
By removing excess fat, tightening facial muscles, and re-draping the skin of your face and neck, a facelift can greatly improve upon some of the most tell-tale signs of aging, including:
- Smoothing out wrinkles
- Tightening saggy skin
- Improving muscle tone
- Enhancing volume
- Lessening facial folds
- Enhancing the jaw line
- Eliminating neck bands
There Are 3 Types of Facelifts:
- A Mini-Lift
- Standard Facelift
- Full Facelift
Each procedure addresses many of the concerns listed above, but to different extents. Which procedure is best for you depends on many factors, including your age, your overall health, your desired areas and desired amount of improvement.
A mini-lift is exactly what it sounds like. It is a simpler facelift that is intended to target specific areas of improvement. A mini-lift is a great option for younger individuals as a preventative tactic, or for those individuals who wish to address a certain area of concern, but don’t need or desire a more extensive procedure that focuses on larger aging changes.
Patients who receive a mini-lift can and should expect to experience:
- A tightening of loose skin
- Softening of deep folds
- Improved neck laxity
- Enhancement of their jaw line
A mini-lift is performed through small incisions that are made right in front of the ears. From that incision point, the underlying muscle tissue is tightened, and the skin is lifted upwards.
A mini-lift is a wonderful way for someone to reduce the appearance of aging before it becomes too apparent, without having to undergo a more complex and expensive procedure such as a full facelift. The procedure itself is performed on a simple outpatient basis with some local anesthesia and medication to reduce any anxiety you may have.
Recovery from a mini-lift is very fast; many people resume normal activities in just a few days.
A standard facelift is the most commonly performed type of facelift.
For patients who are looking for more of an overall improvement, especially in the lower part of their face, a standard facelift is ideal. The procedure addresses many of the most common complaints all at once, such as:
- Eliminating jowls
- Reducing the prominence of wrinkles
- Smoothing out deep furrows
- Eliminating neck-bands
- Tightening of the skin around the neck and jawline
This procedure is performed through incisions placed around the ear and into the hairline, all of which are well concealed. Excess skin and fat is then removed, and the underlying muscle tissue addressed, to give you the desired result and longevity.
The procedure is performed at one of our three surgical centers and typically takes 2-3 hours. Depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure, it may be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
Recovery from a standard facelift procedure is a bit longer than the recovery from a mini-lift, as it is a more complex procedure. Some tenderness, swelling and bruising may be experienced. Most patients resume normal activities 7 to 10 days after their procedure.
A full facelift is also known as a deep plane facelift. It is the right procedure for a person who is looking for a more dramatic overall enhancement. A full facelift addresses both the lower third of the face and neck, as well as the mid-face and cheeks. Patients who undergo a full facelift can expect to see overall improvement throughout the neck, up through the jaw-line to the cheeks, just below the lower eyelids. The procedure is the most comprehensive of the bunch, with significant altering of the underlying muscle tissue.
The procedure is performed with incisions similar to a standard facelift, following the ears and hairline in a concealed manner. It is normally performed under general anesthesia, in one of our three surgical centers, and usually requires an overnight stay.
Patients will be required to wear some limited bandaging around their head and neck to reduce swelling. Discomfort is usually minimal, and most patients return to normal activities two weeks after the procedure.
